Hi, I’m Kayla.
Currently I am making a career switch from teaching to communications/public relations. You can read more about my decision to leave teaching and why I chose public relations. If you’re considering hiring me, I invite you to peruse my resume, PR portfolio and writing for PayScale’s blog. I look forward to hearing from you.
I live in Seattle where I read books, watch movies and write my feelings about them. I also sometimes write about other things rolling around in my mind. Occasionally I write Yelp reviews. I used to write for other people, too.
I have a complex relationship with nostalgia and memory, so I keep track of many things:
- I’ve been keeping a list of every book I’ve read since October 2010.
- Every Monday I make a list of the things that made me happy in the past week, inspired by NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour. I used to do this on Fridays, but turns out I need the positivity more on Mondays. I have kept this practice since February 2011.
- Each December, I review my entire year including things I did for the first time, interesting world events, pop culture references and comparisons to the previous year. I have done this since 2006.
- I maintain three separate Tumblrs: 1) A collection of things that inspire me and make me like life, 2) Personal photos and What’s Making Me Happy This Week, and 3) End of Year Reviews.
